The CENTER for PREVENTION of ABUSE and its Senior Services Department are reaching out during July to educate the public about Elder Abuse and its prevalence in a population that is growing older. “Illinois law defines abuse to mean neglect, physical, mental or sexual injury or financial exploitation to an adult 60 or older,” says Joyce DeRenzy, Senior Services Director at The CENTER. “It is important that we are all aware… that we all take a stand and break the silence when we recognize the signs of elder abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation against an older person in our own family, our neighborhood, or community.
Please join us for these events to raise awareness about Elder Abuse and its effects:
Eat to Defeat Violence (Join The CENTER at one of these locations and a percentage of your meal costs will be donated to The CENTER’s Senior Services Program):
Tuesday, July 8 at Culver’s in East Peoria from 4-8 p.m.
